Kuro is a very special girl who came to us from di Poggio Petroio, a top European show kennel in Italy. She was originally born in Japan to a very well-respected exhibition kennel. She was awarded Best of Breed over 122 Shibas at the 2023 World Dog Show, earning her World Championship title. Kuro is super sweet with people and has an outstanding Shiba spirit and expression. She is very talkative and makes lots of "ro-ro" sounds. She's a very happy girl who loves going for walks and adores playing with toys.
Kuro is a world traveler who is registered in multiple countries. She has her AKC, NIPPO, JKC, KKF, and FCI registrations. She has European certifications for her hips (grade A), elbows (grade 0), eyes, and patellas. She also had OFA hips, cardiac, and dentition done in the US. Embark DNA testing is in-progress.
More about Kuro's personality:
Kuro is a very sweet, energetic girl who is obsessed with walks and with playing fetch. She'll carry her ball around in her mouth and keep track of it all day. Because she loves balls so much, we don't let her have tennis balls, as they can wear the teeth down very badly when dogs want to carry them constantly. She has smaller balls with a textured rubbery surface to help prevent this issue, and she LOVES them. She's perfectly happy to go on walks, play around the house, and go outside to potty without a ball, so she doesn't need to have it constantly, she just really loves to play. She doesn't destroy toys. She loves to be with people and will sometimes snuggle. She'll get along ok with male dogs but cannot be with another female dog. She knows she's the alpha and will try to fight other females. She does fine on-leash around other dogs- she has extensive show experience and has never had a problem at an event. She's fine with cats. She needs to be on amount-limited feeding, because she'll gain weight if she's allowed unlimited access to kibble. She has a very upbeat, bright, happy personality. She potties well on-leash and would be fine in an apartment if she was provided with enough walks and play for mental and physical stimulation. She doesn't chew on furniture, bedding, or cords, is potty trained and crate trained, and has good house manners. She would absolutely adore doing some kind of activity like barn hunt (a structured activity where the dog gets to hunt in an enclosed barn area looking for a rat in a tube. The rat is completely safe. It's perfect for Shibas, especially ones like Kuro). She doesn't climb and won't normally dig, but has strong hunting instincts and will try her best to find moles if they're around.
Tips for her puppies:
As her puppies reach a year or two old, if they begin to gain weight you'll want to put them on an amount-limited feeding schedule (half of the daily allowance in the morning and half at night).
